Marshmallow fondant

My kids have been intrigued by this new show on TLC called "Cake Boss." I decided that I wanted to try and make a cake using fondant like they do in the show. So, I scoured the internet for a good recipe. Most of them said that the recipe made great fondant, but didn't taste very good. I happened to stumble across a recipe for fondant using marshmallows. How could you go wrong with marshmallows? So, we tried it. Here is the recipe:

1 16 oz. package of mini marshmallows

2 T. water

1 1/2 lbs. powdered sugar

Place whole package of marshmallows and water into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 20 seconds. Take out and stir. Microwave for another 20 seconds. Take out and stir. Repeat process until marshmallow cream is smooth. Meanwhile, thoroughly grease your countertop with vegetable shortening. Spread about 3/4 lb powdered sugar onto greased surface. Grease your hands. Pour marshmallow cream onto sugared surface and pour 3/4 more lb of powdered sugar over the top. Knead cream until fondant is firm and smooth, fully mixing in most of the sugar. Refrigerate overnight in greased plastic wrap. When ready to use, microwave for 10 seconds or until it feels soft enough to roll out. Again cover surface with powdered sugar and roll out to desired thickness. Decorate your cake! (The key to getting it to stick to your cake is to frost your cake with regular frosting and then place fondant over the top.) We had so much fun making little cakes (the girls each did their own). *if you want to color your fondant, add food coloring before pouring marshmallow out onto powdered sugar surface.
It's really messy but fun!
The finished product...imagine the possibilities!
