End of school stuff

As the school year comes to an end, our elementary school has some fun activities that the girls look forward to every year. A few nights ago, we were privileged to attend the 4th/5th Grade spotlight presentation. Both Charlotte and Jillian were a part of their class "choir." The great thing about this evening's performance was that they started out with two patriotic songs and finished with "Amazing Grace." I was so happy that they allowed these songs in a public school! In this politically correct world, it was surprising. My parents were in town and they were stunned at the quality of the programs. The kids had so many instruments to play...electric guitars, drums, xylophones, to name a few. Our PTA is very active at raising money for the music department which I am so grateful for! Kudos to Mr. Weissbaarth, our music teacher!

Charlotte and Jillian dressed in their nice clothes before the performance.
The second activity that is always so fun is the Jog A Thon. This year, it should have been called the "Sog" A Thon because it was pouring rain and freezing! (It's almost June right?) Anyway, the girls each take turns with their class running around the track. They earn money for each lap that they run.
Mrs. Thompson has had each of my kids in Kindergarten. Each year, she grabs my youngest kid (Allison was just a little baby when she started doing it) and makes sure to take a lap with her. Lydia got her turn this year and had no problem running two laps with "Ally's teacher."

My poor nephews, Drew and Joel, had to endure two hours of watching the girls run in the rain and cold. We broke up the boredom by letting them run in the field and play on the playground. They were also thrilled when Charlotte took her turn to run. She grabbed Drew, threw him on her back and they did a few laps together. He thought it was pretty fun. She did the same with Joel and Lydia.

( Cute picture, except for the bar that is in the way)
Finally, here is the last week of excitement! Enjoy!

Rain, Rain go away!

Normally, I LOVE the rain. I would prefer a wet, rainy day to a hot sunny one any time. But lately, I've simply had enough. Last Saturday and Sunday it was almost 80 degrees. I got my garden in, my flowers planted and my bark laid. By Monday, it was pouring rain and freezing again. The slugs came out and have eaten half my newly planted flowers. I have gone through a ridiculous amount of slug bait to get rid of them. Casey has some big outdoor events coming up and he NEEDS it to stop raining. So, even though I normally rejoice when it rains, I am praying for sunshine...and soon! Tomorrow the kids are running our school's job a thon and I have a feeling they will be getting very wet!!

Here's last weeks fun! Enjoy!

Spring pictures of yard loveliness

Charlotte wanted me to show off her photography. She took these pictures on Saturday after we had spent the previous 2 days sprucing up our yard. (Maybe that's my carpal tunnel problem?...too much bark and dirt shoveling...I was VERY sore!) Anyway, I made a page for her pictures. Enjoy!

Carpal Tunnel

Hey everyone. I just put up last, last week's project 365 page. I'm having a hard time typing because my carpal tunnel is acting up. My fingers go numb for large parts of the day. It drives me absolutely nuts! I try and wear a brace but not for the whole day. Even simple things are getting hard...writing anything, typing, making sandwiches in the morning. I'm not sure what to attribute the flair up to...it's been dormant for a few years now. (I'm thinking it's my new Primary pianist assignment...I'm practicing and playing a whole lot more??) Anywho...if you have any home remedies, let me know. Have a good week!

Update

Here you go Mom...two posts in one day! This should make up for my 10 day hiatus right? I just caught up with my project 365 week 17 and thought I'd share my last week with you all! Enjoy!

Yes, I finally scrapbooked Easter!! I liked the way this page turned out so I'm posting it for you all to see!

Birthday fun

My Jillian is 10! I can hardly believe it! To celebrate, we took her out to dinner at Red Robin after attending a baptism on Saturday night. Casey got her a balloon and some flowers. We left the other girls at home (it's so nice to have an almost 12 year old to babysit!) so that we could have some alone time with Jillian.

The free sundae that came with an "embarrassing" Happy Birthday song. Jillian practically hid under the table as the Red Robin crew sang to her.

For Family Night on Monday, we had her official party. I made her a flower garden cake (as she requested) and had such a blast making all those frosting flowers. The Boorens and Walburgers also came over and she opened presents and ate her cake....a simple birthday, but very fun!

Here's the cake...Uncle Jared said it looked like a Kentucky Derby hat. Since it was Derby weekend, we can say that's what it was meant to look like!
